“What is SCRIP?”
Traditional SCRIP are gift certificates and gift cards for popular stores, restaurants and retail establishments. “Why should I buy it?”
This is a fundraising effort that everyone can participate in and it doesn't cost YOU anything extra. Why? If you buy $100 worth of SCRIP from us, you get to spend that exact same $100 at the store, restaurant, or retail establishment. Your additional cost of buying and using SCRIP is zero. At the same time, the Parent Association makes money! “How does SCRIP make money for the school?”
Retailers, restaurants, and grocery stores (like Starbuck’s, Smart & Final, and Whole Foods) sell SCRIP to the Pressman Parent Association at less than face value. The Parent Association profits by selling this SCRIP to the community at full face value. We make money on this difference between what we pay for SCRIP and what we sell it for. “How much of my purchase price goes to the school?”
We make 3% to 5% profit ($3-$5 profit for every $100) from grocery store SCRIP. Other merchants offer their SCRIP at profit rates that vary from as little as 1.5% of the purchase price to as much as 20%. “Where and When can I buy Scrip?”
Pressman Academy offers two convenient options:
1) Purchase a select amount of cards at the The Colker Jucaica Gift Shop (located in the lobby of the main synagogue building). For bulk purchases, you can contact our SCRIP Coordinator directly at mvaakil@eglproperties.com or by cell at (310) 422-8211. OR 2) Purchase from a large selection of cards online. Orders will be available in 1-2 weeks and can be held for you in the office or sent home with your child. Payment must be received before order will be placed. Orders over $100.00 must be picked up in the Day School Office. See website for more details.

Many of the places you shop at frequently accept SCRIP! To see a current list of available SCRIP, please click on the BESTSELLING SCRIP LIST. The bestsellers list will be updated from time to time. If you shop at Ralph's, you can earn money for Pressman Academy by registering your Ralph's Club Card (you will need the card in front of you). You may do this by filling out the Ralph's Club Sign Up Form and we will take care of it for you. OR Simply go to www.Ralphs.com, at the bottom of the Main page, under Services, click on School Programs, then click where it says Community Contribution "Learn More", then click on Participant,and enter your information and our NPO #84479. This is a secure site, and you won't receive any solicitations or junk email as a result of signing up. If you don't have internet access, please call 1-800-443-4438 to sign up. You will need to register your card every September. Be sure to swipe your Ralph's card every time you shop! If you spend, Up to $200 1% towards our school

Over $500 4% “What is e-Scrip, and how do I join?”
E-Scrip (as opposed to "SCRIP") is a related fundraising program that has generated more than $20 million for schools and youth organizations nationwide. Go to www.escrip.com and reference Rabbi Jacob Pressman Academy’s I.D. # 136559015. This is a secure site where you can register your Vons and Pavilions grocery club cards, your Macy's card, and your major credit cards. Pressman Academy makes money each time you shop with e-Scrip merchant partners. Think about how much money you can raise for the school by tying your regular or business credit cards to this program!
Participating merchants include American Airlines, Baja Fresh, Bristol Farms, Dream Dinners, Macy's, Office Max, Pavilions, Pep Boys, and Vons. e-Scrip pays at a lower profit rate than most gift certificate and gift card Scrip, but it is so very easy to use. Once you are registered with e-Scrip, you'll automatically be making a contribution to our school each time you use your registered cards at participating merchants. --------------------------------------------------------------- And don't forget to encourage your family and friends to register their Ralph's Club Card, credit cards and purchase gift cards online as well. Some of you have called and e-mailed us asking about alarming stories on the internet and in the press recently about gift cards and retailers going out of business. We thought we'd share some thoughts on this subject.
There's no doubt that in this economic climate that even the most successful retailers may find they have stores that aren't doing well. The prudent business thing for them to do when that happens is to close that location. They typically provide some advance warning of a closing. This does not necessarily mean that the entire chain is in danger of closing.
You should know that we keep very close tabs on any of our retail partners that we think may be in financial trouble. If we feel there is a significant risk of them closing, or not accepting their gift cards, we will stop selling their cards. We take our role seriously as a leader in the gift card business, and we fiercely protect the interests of our non-profit clients. When and if we have important information about our suppliers, we will do the best we can to quickly and clearly share that information with you.
All of our retail partners are doing their best to deal with a softening economy. The best thing we can do right now is to continue to support the retailers who have supported our scrip programs in the past. You should also know that some of the information in the e-mails that are out there is exaggerated, or completely untrue.
